The History of Farris & Farris, P.A.

In late 1948, a young man named Robert A. Farris began his own law firm in Wilson, North Carolina. A native of Wilson and a graduate of the University of North Carolina and the University of North Carolina School of Law, Robert Farris provided the citizens of Wilson with sound, trustworthy and reliable legal representation. Over the next fifty years, his law firm, now known and Farris and Farris, P.A. continued to grow into Wilson’s and North Carolina’s most respected law firm.

Robert Farris, Sr., left his firm in the capable hands of his sons, Robert A. Farris, Jr., Thomas J. Farris and William C. Farris. All graduates of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina School of Law, the Farris brothers have over seventy years of combined experience in the legal profession. Robert practices out of the Wilson Office. William was sworn in as a District Court Judge for the Seventh Judicial District on March 1, 2001. Thomas practiced in the Wilson and Raleigh offices before his untimely death in 2006.

Caroline Farris Quinn, daughter of Robert, Jr. was the first third-generation member of Farris and Farris. Caroline, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Campbell University School of Law, joined the firm in 1994. In the summer of 2004, Caroline left Farris & Farris and took a position as an Assistant District Attorney for the Seventh Prosecutorial District.

In September of 1997, Caroline’s husband, Joseph N. Quinn, Jr. joined Farris & Farris. A native of Marion, NC, Joseph graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Campbell University School of Law. From 1995 to 1997, Joseph served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Seventh Prosecutorial District. Joseph practiced at Farris and Farris in Wilson from 1997 until his untimely death in 2006.

William M.J. Farris, son of Robert, Jr., is the second third-generation member of Farris and Farris. William, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina Central School of Law, joined the law firm of Farris and Farris in August of 2001. William previously clerked for the District Attorney’s Office for the Seventh Prosecutorial District.

Brian Paxton, a graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and North Carolina Central School of Law, recently joined the law firm of Farris and Farris. He has previously worked at the law firm of  Fitch, Scott and Associates and operated his own law firm. Brian joins Farris and Farris after working as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of North Carolina Department of Justice. As an Assistant Attorney General, Brian was assigned to the Right-of-Way Branch of the Department of Transportation and handled condemnation trials and governmental litigation in Superior Courts across the State of North Carolina. His past experience working in land condemnation and eminent domain for the government provides clients of Farris and Farris valuable insight and representation.

Farris and Farris provides free parking to its clients on the corner of Nash and Tarboro Streets in Wilson, NC next to its office.
