Fatal accident leaves two dead in North Carolina

An early morning car accident resulted in the death of two brothers. The accident took place at about 5:50 a.m. on N.C. 98 when the brothers' vehicle was hit head-on by a pickup truck.

According to police, the brothers were in an Isuzu Rodeo driving near Coley Road when a Dodge pickup truck, driven by a 20-year-old man from Raleigh, slid across the center of the two-lane highway and hit the Rodeo. The brothers, both from Durham, were badly injured in the crash and were both declared dead at the scene of the accident.

Though police originally suspected alcohol had played a role in the accident, after further investigation, they found that the driver of the Dodge was impaired by another substance. Police continue to investigate the accident. The Dodge driver was arrested and taken to Durham County Jail. He was charged with two counts of felony death by motor vehicle and driving while impaired. His bail was set at $500,000. The man also had multiple court dates awaiting him for speeding, hit-and-run, reckless driving and drug possession.

The brothers' family might consider filing a wrongful death claim since the brothers' deaths were caused by the other driver's reckless actions. They might benefit from the guidance of a lawyer during the process. The family might be entitled to compensation for funeral and burial costs as well as for other issues related to the death of the two brothers. These might include any conscious pain and suffering experienced by the brothers after the accident and before their death. Additionally, the family might be entitled to compensation for loss of income resulting from the brothers' deaths and for the loss of companionship experienced by other members of the family.
