Pool worker facing criminal charges

It took just over a week, but the first "you've got to be kidding me" story of 2014. We usually don't highlight stories like this because there are plenty of tabloid news outlets in Texas and across the nation. But with last week's brutally cold weather, and the legal implications that can come about, the story is worth telling.

A pool worker conducting some maintenance reportedly drained the pool onto a nearby street before working on it. Normally this would not be a problem as this is a common process for repairs. However, the temperatures were so cold that the draining water froze and created a dangerous ice slick that snared a number of unsuspecting drivers. Several of them were involved in accidents as they lost control of their vehicles. Even emergency vehicles had problems responding to the accidents because of the icy road.

Thankfully, only one person was injured.

Meanwhile, the pool worker was arrested and charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment. Essentially, authorities believed that the worker's actions reasonably put people at a substantial risk of death or bodily harm. He was taken into custody and later released on bail.

In these situations, it is helpful to have an experienced criminal defense attorney who can advocate for one's innocence, in light of the dubious circumstances. Also, a seasoned lawyer has the credibility and experience to argue for an appropriate sentence should there be a guilty plea or verdict.

It remains to be seen whether the pool worker will enter a plea.
