North Carolina woman charged with white collar crimes

Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of a Durham-based business owner following a grand jury indictment. Sources say the woman, who owns a health care company in Durham, was indicted on 15 charges including identity theft and health care fraud.

According to investigators, the chief executive and owner of the N.C. Behavioral Health and Counseling Services, allegedly cheated the Medicaid program out of about $1 million. Authorities say she submitted service claims for at least 56 of her clients, but none of them ever received any services. Court records indicate the woman allegedly spent the money to acquire a swimming pool, a Mercedes and a Cadillac Escalade.

Approximately two years ago, this same business woman was the target of an investigation by WRAL.com. The website's report claims undisclosed records indicated that her health care facility sent Medicaid bills totaling over $712,000 for counseling services for 2011. Reportedly, these bills include 3,237 treatment sessions all billed under a single psychologist.

The report also indicates this psychologist has never heard of Behavioral Health and Counseling Services and claims she expressed anger over the allegations. Reports say the psychologist has offered to cooperate with the investigation. Regarding the subject of the grand jury indictment, WRAL.com says she has declined to make any comment on the allegations.

A conviction on charges for white collar crimes like fraud and identity theft is a serious, life-changing event. This is why it's important that all the facts of the case are reviewed, including the investigation and the eventual arrest. Having a dedicated criminal defense attorney on her side will help ensure the business woman's rights remain protected throughout the case.
