May is Motorcycle Awareness Month

Spring is in full bloom, and summer is beginning to make its first appearance in North Carolina, and the month of May also marks the official start of motorcycle season. Every year, May is designated as Motorcycle Awareness Month as police and other officials urge drivers to look twice and always check for motorcycles sharing the road.

There is always the risk of being involved in an accident when you are on the road, whether you are in a full size vehicle or riding a motorcycle. However, as riders know, there is a much higher chance of being seriously injured in a motorcycle accident because the bike offers the rider little to no protection against the impact of a car or truck.

While motorcyclists are often blamed for accidents in the media, the reality is that most riders are responsible and do not fit the stereotype of going too fast, darting in and out of cars or trying to ride on the shoulder to avoid traffic. However, motorcycles can be more difficult for drivers to see, particularly for those driving large vehicles that have larger blind spots.

Riders who have been injured in an accident may have an uphill battle showing that the other driver was at fault or getting the other person's insurance company to pay out. At Farris & Farris, we help riders hold the at-fault party responsible for the damages and injuries any irresponsible or negligent behavior has caused. We work with you to help you understand your options and give you the knowledge you need to move forward.
