Were you hit by a log truck? Seek compensation

When drivers see log trucks barreling down the road toward them, they naturally worry about their own safety. Log trucks that lose their loads or drivers who can't control their trucks place many in danger.

All log truck drivers should anticipate the potential for collisions and accidents. The unexpected actions of drivers can be exacerbated when a logging trucker is distracted or fatigued while behind the wheel.

Safety begins before the trucks ever leave the lumberyard. All loads must be properly distributed and secured. The trucker is responsible for making certain that the truck and its load are safe for hauling.

No defects should be present on the truck that could affect safety factors. Worn or defective parts and equipment must be taken out of service, repaired or replaced.

It should go without saying that no logging truck driver should ever consume alcohol or illegal drugs while on the job, but even over-the-counter and legally prescribed medications can have deleterious effects on a driver's ability to take the necessary evasive actions to avert a tragic collision.

If you get injured in an accident involving a logging truck driver, you have rights that you must protect if you want to make a claim for damages against the trucker and the logging company that employs him or her. If negligence led to your getting hurt and running up medical bills, missing work and experiencing pain and suffering, you can file a claim for damages to recover financial compensation.

If your claim is denied or low-balled by the insurance agent, you may need to retain an attorney to take the fight to the courtroom for justice.
