1 killed, 3 injured in wreck in Greenville

A 51-year-old woman from Windsor in Bertie County was killed in an auto accident earlier this week that also sent three others to the hospital.

The fatality happened in Greenville on Monday, Jan. 2 in the evening. Reports from the Greenville Police Department indicate that the collision occurred on Memorial Drive near the Quality Inn.

The accident reportedly happened when a 58-year-old Rich Square man driving a 1997 Toyota tried to drive from a business across five traffic lanes to the other side of the highway. His vehicle was struck by a 23-year-old Ayden man in a 2007 Mercedes-Benz. The Mercedes then left the highway and struck the road marker by the motel.

The woman, who was riding in the Toyota, died at the scene of the accident. The two drivers and a 21-year-old riding in the Mercedes all received treatment for injuries not considered to be life-threatening at Vidant Medical Center.

It is unknown why the driver of the Toyota was attempting to cut across multiple lanes of traffic.

If another driver's careless or negligent acts behind the wheel led to your being hurt in an auto accident, you don't have to absorb the costs all by yourself. You have the right to file a claim for damages with the insurance company that insured the driver or vehicle that was responsible for your injuries.

Since it is the common practice of insurance companies to intentionally deny legitimate claims and low-ball claimants with paltry offers to settle, it may be necessary to retain a North Carolina personal injury attorney to file suit against the at-fault driver who caused your injuries.
