When a person is involved in an accident, such as one in which two vehicles collide, there is always a concern that somebody could be injured. Spine injuries are extremely common in motor vehicle accidents, especially those in which one vehicle hits another from behind.
As the title implies, traumatic brain injury occurs when the brain experiences a sudden trauma. According to the National Institutes of Medicine, TBIs can occur in two ways, both of which are classified by the extent of damage done to the brain: mild, moderate or severe. The first way that a TBI can occur is when a victim's head is struck by some sudden external force. An example of this might be during a car accident when a victim's head smashes violently against the steering wheel.
