Football fans should be cautious at the Belk Bowl

The Belk Bowl this Saturday will once again be a premier college football event. The Cincinnati Bearcats will take on the North Carolina Tar Heels. The game will be the centerpiece of a number of events, including a 5k run, a pep rally in downtown Charlotte, as well as a number of alumni events for each school.

In all the festivities, it is important to maintain a safe sense of awareness, especially for people who are driving to the game from out of town. December is notorious for traffic accidents and fatalities. While a considerable number occur before Christmas (due to the rush to buy Christmas presents), drivers should still be concerned and aware of the numerous hazards that can come about.

College football games include thousands of fans that are under the influence of alcohol. In fact, the Allstate Insurance commercials should be enough of a warning to keep fans aware.

From a legal standpoint, fans are under a continuing duty to use reasonable care in conducting themselves. This means that they should use the prudence, courtesy and caution that a reasonable person would use in similar situations. Essentially, they should refrain from texting and driving, drinking to excess and driving aggressively. If a fan fails to use such care, and an accident occurs, the driver could be held liable for the injuries that occur.

In these situations, an experienced attorney can help in assessing the value of a potential case should a person be injured in a car accident or while in the stadium.
