Man sentenced in drunk driving crash

Drunk driving is a serious crime that can have serious consequences. Not only can this lead to jail time, but drinking and driving increases the chance of an on the road accident. Securing criminal defense representation can be crucial to building a solid defense and protecting your rights from the beginning to the end of what can be ominous legal proceedings.

A Fayette County man who caused a crash when drinking, killing a passenger in the vehicle, was sentenced to three to six years in prison. The 28-year-old-man pleaded guilty earlier this year to homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, and other violations.

It is believed the man, who previously served two tours overseas with the North Carolina Army National Guard and the Army, was traveling faster than 90 mph in a 35 mph speed zone. He eventually ran through a stop sign and crashed the vehicle.

As a result of the accident, the car landed upside down, with both men in the car needing to be extricated by emergency crews. While the driver of the vehicle survived, his passenger did not. Instead, he was pronounced dead several hours later at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

The man did not lie to police, instead telling them that he had consumed narcotics and alcohol before the accident. The complaint also shows that his blood alcohol level was 0.231.

A drunk driving accident can lead to serious injury or even death, such as was the case with this tragic incident. Due to the seriousness of this accident, that took the life of an innocent passenger, the man has been sentenced to a minimum of three years in prison with the possibility of serving as many as six.
