Wilson, North Carolina, residents arrested in heroin sweep

Marking the end of a six-month heroin distribution ring investigation by the Rocky Mount Police Department, officials arrested three Wilson residents on drug charges involving heroin and Ecstasy. Members of the Wilson police force assisted Rocky Mount police with the arrests. The Rocky Mount investigators also arrested three other individuals from Rocky Mount and Newark, New Jersey, during last week's sweep.

A special investigations unit attached to the Rocky Mount Police Department helmed the investigation into an alleged heroin distribution ring with assistance from the North Carolina National Guard, Wilson police officers and sheriff's deputies from Nash and Edgecombe. A police spokesman said North Carolina police officials conducted the drug sweep to get a handle on the resurgence of heroin-related drug offenses in the Rocky Mount area.

The Wilson men arrested in the sweep face a plethora of severe drug charges including: conspiracy to deliver heroin; maintaining a vehicle to deliver controlled substances; drug possession; intent to sell or deliver drugs; felony possession of marijuana and a Schedule I controlled substance; and many others. The three men are currently being held on individual secured bonds ranging from $37,500 to $500,000.

According to police officers, the sweep uncovered more than 1,500 bags of heroin, 11 grams of Ecstasy and more than three ounces of high-grade marijuana, but the bust only yielded a little over $4,000 in cash.

Most drug trafficking operations uncover a lot more cash than uncovered during this arrest, which is something a talented drug offenses attorney might be able to use toward building a strong defense. Even though no one likes to think about drug dealers roaming America's cities, the bottom line is everyone is still innocent until proven guilty in this country and we all have the right to a fair and balanced trial in which all crucial aspects are represented in court.
