Man facing 20 charges for shooting North Carolina officers

Many times, when people are charged with crimes, they are not sure if they need to acquire legal representation, but occasionally, it's clear right from the outset that a lawyer is necessary. One man from Charlotte, North Carolina, is currently looking at more than 20 charges for an alleged shooting involving police officers and a child.

According to a report in the News & Record, it's unclear if the defendant has acquired legal counsel, but it sounds like he is going to need to consider hiring a criminal defense attorney to manage these charges.

Reportedly, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to an alleged domestic incident on Sunday, Aug. 17 after receiving a 911 call from a woman saying her boyfriend had attempted to attack her.

The article was short on details but reported that two officers received gunshot wounds during the call. One of the officers was shot in the arm and the leg, and the other officer was shot in the elbow and the face. The report says a 10-year-old girl was also slightly injured after the alleged shooter fired a shotgun into the residence.

According to the news story, the 27-year-old defendant received the following charges:

-- Three counts: attempted murder-- Three counts: assault on police officer with a gun-- Two counts: assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and with intent to kill-- Two counts: assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill-- Six counts: firing of a gun into a house-- Two counts: damage of property-- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon-- Firing of a gun within the city limits-- Assault due to pointing a gun
