Want to hear about North Carolina drunk driving stats?

Every year throughout the state of North Carolina, people are injured and killed in motor vehicle accidents. Just the same as other states, alcohol plays a big part in many of these accidents.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, there were 402 fatal alcohol related car wrecks in North Carolina in 2012. This is a large number, especially when you consider the fact that this accounts for 31 percent of all traffic deaths. Furthermore, this was a 12 percent increase when compared to the number of fatalities in 2011.

To go along with drunk driving fatalities, 8,486 people were injured in 1,124 alcohol related car wrecks in 2012.

From the outside looking it, it is easy to think that you are not impacted by a drunk driving accident unless you are one of the people involved. However, this is not the case when you consider that the taxpayer subsidy of drunk driving fatalities reached $1.96 billion in 2012. Additionally, these accidents go a long way in forcing lawmakers to consider additional penalties on those convicted of DUI, such as making ignition interlock devices mandatory.

These North Carolina drunk driving stats give an overview of how serious this problem has become throughout the state. Even though people know they should not be drinking and driving, they continue to do so.

In the event that a person is injured in an alcohol related accident, they may wish to consider their legal rights, such as filing a lawsuit against the negligent party. The same holds true for a family member of somebody who was killed in such an accident.
