What are the main causes of truck accidents?

Whenever a passenger vehicle collides with a large truck, the chances of injuries and death to the occupants of the car are quite high. Sometimes the trucker is at fault, but auto drivers can also create safety hazards that lead to wrecks.

One of the most dangerous hazards is drivers who forget that truckers have limited vision; when cars are in their blind spots, they cannot be seen by the truck driver. Another problem is drivers expecting a truck to be able to quickly come to a halt.

Below are some additional safety hazards to avoid on the highway.

-- Weaving in and out of traffic lanes around large trucks.

-- Slowing your speed or stopping when merging. Make sure that your speed is consistent with that of the traffic.

-- Not giving truckers making a right turn plenty of room to maneuver their big rigs.

-- Turning left in front of an oncoming truck or blowing through intersections without slowing down for the stop sign.

-- Pulling out abruptly from an intersection into the path of a speeding truck.

-- Driving in between two 18-wheelers, or getting buffeted out of the lane by the cross-winds of a truck.

-- Leaving a stalled vehicle in a traffic lane on the highway.

Even when motorists observe all the road rules and are cautious, accidents can happen due to negligence on the part of the trucker or the company for which he or she is driving. Fatigued truckers are often goaded into driving more hours than are allowed by greedy companies.

If you are injured in a truck wreck, seeking compensation may be possible.
