How can I improve my defensive driving skills?

North Carolina has quite a few congested roads. With so many vacation destinations, visitors from all over the country come to the state for its beaches, state parks and much more. So, how can you become a better defensive driver in Wilson?

The best defensive drivers out there scan the road ahead of them, instead of just looking at the car directly in front of them. Scanning the road ahead allows drivers to see what is going on and anticipate any issues they might encounter, such as road hazards, inclement weather, accidents, animals and more.

If you encounter a driver apparently involved in road rage activities, never make eye contact with him or her. Ignore their instigating tactics and try to safely maneuver your vehicle away from them so you are not in the middle of the incident, which can lead to an accident.

Never drive distracted, ever. This includes using any type of handheld device, reading, putting on makeup, eating, shaving; even changing the radio stations leads to momentary wandering away from focus on the road. We all know it only takes a millisecond for an accident to occur. Distracted driving continues to be a major problem on the roads of not only North Carolina, but also the entire country.

Try to limit the number of lane changes you make when driving, even when there isn't much traffic on the roads. The less often you change lanes, the less likely it is that you will get into an accident.

Defensive driving skills can help you stay safe on the roads of North Carolina. If an accident still happens, an experienced motor vehicle accidents attorney can answer all of your questions and guide you in the right direction.
