Driving safety tips for the autumn season

The fall season is finally upon us in North Carolina. Leaves are changing colors, the air is becoming crisper and the deer are out in force. That means accidents will be on the rise. The fall season is rough for drivers for quite a few reasons. We will discuss some important fall driving safety tips in today's post.

The fall season is peak mating season for deer. They mate in October, November and December. This means there will be an increase in them wandering around Wilson. If an accident with a deer is unavoidable, do not swerve the vehicle. Brake and come to a stop as you hit the deer and then move your vehicle safely off the road.

Wet leaves are a big problem on the roads of Wilson during the fall. Driving on wet leaves can cause your vehicle to swerve or skid because they reduce the traction of your tires on the roads. If it is raining and you have to drive, be sure to avoid driving over wet leaves. If unavoidable, be sure not to slam the brakes on while driving over them.

You need to make adjustments for the loss of light during peak driving hours during the fall season. It becomes more difficult to see pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists and kids playing late in the afternoon as the sun sets. Adjust for the loss of light by driving slower and being conscious of what's going on around you.
