Are you constantly on the roads of Wilson? Driving on a regular basis can put you into contact with some of the worst drivers out there. Not everyone will be as focused, smart, safe and caring as you. That's the problem with driving; you cannot trust the person next to you, in front of you or behind you to drive as safely as you do. So, what information is needed to report a possible drunk driver?
The first thing you need to do when you spot a possible drunk driver is get a good look at the car. Try to remember its make, model, color and license plate. If you can only remember one thing, remember the license plate. If you can provide this information to dispatchers, it will be easier for police to track down the driver.
When you go to make the 911 call, be sure to do so when you pull to the side of the road or into a parking lot. If your car has a hands-free system to make calls, do so immediately so the search for the driver is not prolonged.
While on the phone with the dispatcher, you will need to provide him or her with the exact location of the drunk driver. If the car is stopped, provide that intersection. If you are on a highway, provide a mile marker or exit number.
Once you have reported the issue, do not follow the vehicle unless you both are traveling the same way. Also do not try to force the driver to pull off the road either. Leave this to the police.
