Interstate 40 in North Carolina was recently the site of a massive accident in which nine cars were involved. Pictures from the scene showed some of the cars burning on the side of the road. So far, three people have died from the injuries they suffered in the wreck.
Although police did not give out the names of any of the people who got hurt or passed away, they did confirm that six people suffered injuries. Two people passed away while still at the crash site. One person's injuries were catastrophic enough that they died in the medical center after being taken from the scene.
The initial accident led to a traffic backup, and that caused a secondary accident. That secondary wreck caused far more damage than the first one.
It appears that a lumber truck did not slow down properly when nearing the stopped traffic. The massive vehicle plowed into several cars that had already come to a halt. Those vehicles included cars and a second semi. The lumber truck was a flatbed.
Incidents like this one demonstrate the true risk of driving in a very raw and real way. There is almost nothing that someone can do to avoid an accident when stopped in traffic. All it takes is one driver making a mistake to cause a host of injuries and fatalities.
If you suffer injuries in a traffic accident or lose a loved one in a crash, make sure you know all of the legal options available to you for seeking the compensation you need and deserve as you move forward.
