Most North Carolina bike crashes involve other vehicles

Motorcycles are very popular in North Carolina, as they provide riders with excellent views of the natural beauty in the state as well as speed and convenience in traffic jams around Charlotte and Raleigh. With the large number of bikes on the roads, drivers owe themselves and others to keep an eye out for the vehicles.

Following the rules of the road and maintaining vigilance are the best ways the avoid potential accidents. Driving under the influence of alcohol or driving while distracted are often indicators of fatal crashes, but excessive speed may also factor into a tragic error affecting nearby drivers.

Motorcycles are involved in the fourth most fatal accidents by vehicle in North Carolina. However, in all accidents in the Tar Heel State, motorcycles are only the sixth most likely vehicle to be involved. This is largely because of the lack of protection that motorcycles offer their drivers and passengers.

A large number of drivers who struck bikers on the road report not seeing a bike or its rider until it was too late to avoid a collision. Reduction in speed increases reaction time, which also increases the chances of avoiding a collision or blunting its effects. Even a smarter reaction to a possible collision may save a life.

If a motorcyclist is injured or killed in an accident that was another driver's fault, the victim or their survivors may have a case for financial damages. An attorney cannot help with physical or mental recovery but can help victims and their families get justice in civil court.
