According to witnesses at the scene, a dark colored car attempted to make an illegal pass on NC 43 near Falkland, triggering a four car accident. One of the vehicles involved in the car collision was a Disabled American Veterans van carrying two people. The passenger in the van died and the driver was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Several witnesses observed the black or dark gray car trying to pass in a no-pass zone just before the accident occurred.
